Goodie Mob is a part of the legendary Dungeon Family along with Outkast and a few others. The group first appeared on Outkast’s Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik project. Git Up, Git Out and Call of da Wild were the two tracks that featured members of the Goodie Mob. About a year and a half later, they would release their debut album. Soul Food was the name, and it turns 30 years old today. Cee-Lo Green, Big Gipp, Khujo and T-Mo are the group members, and they produced a classic. Many have said that the Soul Food joint along with Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik made southern hip hop accepted in the mainstream. Dungeon Family members Outkast, Witchdoctor, Sleepy Brown and Cool Breeze all made appearances on the album. Cell Therapy was the first single from the Soul Food album.
Cell Therapy is regarded as an instant classic and it’s the only single group to reach Top 40 on Billboard from the group. The track is one of the group’s greatest hits and one of the tracks that define the south. The title track, Soul Food was their second single from the album. The song speaks for itself with everyone rapping about their favorite foods. The third and final single from the album was Dirty South. Dirty South was another classic record from the Goodie Mob. Soul Food is one of my favorite albums of any genre ever. The album is one of those albums that had a bigger impact than what the sales say. Check out my top 5 tracks from the Soul Food album.
