Welcome to another week as we enter the summer season. We will have Game 6 of the NBA Finals tonight. Oklahoma City will try to close out the Indiana Pacers on the road to win their first championship. A lot is going on in the world today, so I’m sending positive energy to each and everyone of you. We have the war between Iran and Israel with Iran threatening the United States. A few days ago, there were numerous demonstrations across the country for No Kings Day. Protestors filled the streets in many cities throughout the United States. In the entertainment world, the Diddy Trial continues to move along, and I’ve not kept up with it. There are allegations and a lawsuit against Tyler Perry. In the sporting world, congratulations to the Florida Panthers on repeating as Stanley Cup Champions.
In music, the legendary Slick Rick released his first album in over 26 years. The album is called Victory, and it’s a great album that dropped last Friday. This past Monday, we celebrated what would’ve been 2Pac’s 54th birthday. As we all know, the late, great Shakur passed away on September 13th 1996, from gunshot wounds. As usual, I’m listening to Me Against the World, Makaveli, or All Eyez On Me that day. My playlist this week consisted of the Makaveli album, the new Slick Rick and a couple of mixtapes. Goodie Mob and their classic debut project, Soul Food were also played this week. Soul Food from Goodie Mob is one of my favorite albums of all time. We were introduced to Goodie Mob on Outkast’s Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik project and especially on Git Up, Git Out. Cell Therapy was their first single and it’s my featured Throwback Thursday joint.
The song became a top 40 hit, peaking at number 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 while also topping the Billboard Hot Rap Singles at number one. It remains the group’s only single to reach the top 40. The song has also appeared on Goodie Mob’s greatest hits compilation Dirty South Classics and Cee Lo Green’s Closet Freak: The Best of Cee-Lo Green the Soul Machine. Check out the video for Cell Therapy above. Below you can check out the track listing and stream link for the Soul Food album.
