Welcome to another Thursday, this means we’re closer to the weekend. My playlist consisted of a mixture of R&B and some hip hop of course. Musiq Soulchild, Jamie Foxx and the debut from Jagged Edge was for the R&B side. For hip hop, Busta Rhymes, the Beautiful Struggle from Talib Kweli, Ice Cube’s debut and Twista. The Adrenaline Rush 2007 album from Twista was on my playlist, but it made me think about some older Twista. My Mixtape Friday was one of my personal favorites I’ve ever done. The compilation was some of Georgia’s dopest hip hop records spanning about 30 years. OutKast, Goodie Mob, Raheem the Dream, T.I., Ludacris, Jeezy, Ghetto Mafia and Kilo Ali were among those included. Unfortunately, there are a lot of other artists who didn’t make the compilation. Nas Street’s Disciple Released 15 Years Ago
15 years ago was a nice day if you’re a fan of hip hop. We already covered that T.I. dropped his Urban Legend project on this day. My favorite rapper alive, Nas released his seventh album Street’s Disciple. Street’s Disciple was a double album dropped by Nas and it received mixed reviews. Hip hop was definitely represented on this very day. Talib Kweli’s The Beautiful Struggle and Blackout from Method Man and Redman dropped on this day. Blackout dropped 20 years ago and Talib Kweli released his second solo album the same time as Ciara. Ciara released the title track as her first single a few months before the album dropped. Straight Outta Cashville is the incredibly dope album Young Buck dropped 15 years ago today. If you didn’t follow Young Buck’s career, he started with Juvenile and his UTP crew. After touring with 50 Cent, Buck went on to sign with G-Unit Records. Young Buck appeared on 50’s classic, Get Rich or Die Trying and was a part of the Beg for Mercy album. Warren G Nate Dogg Regulate will forever be known as a hip hop classic. Just like MC Eiht from last week, we’re staying out West with a classic soundtrack record.
