Last week, Scarface and his classic track, Hand of the Dead were my highlighted song. This week I’ll be going back to the year 2004. On November 9, 2004, Fabolous released his third album called Real Talk. In 2001, Fabolous turned a feature on Lil’ Mo’s Superwoman Pt. II into a record deal in 2001. Later that year, Fabolous would release his debut album titled Ghetto Fabolous. The album went platinum and produced a lot of hits while Fabolous appeared on other records. A year and a half later, Fabolous would release his Street Dreams project. Street Dreams would go on to sell over a million copies. Late in 2004, Fabolous returned with his third album called Real Talk. The album was received lukewarm from a critical standpoint but was a commercial success. The first single from the album was called Breathe.
Breathe was the perfect track for Fabolous because dude can spit. Pitchfork Media named “Breathe” the number nine song of the year 2004. The song was also listed by Pitchfork Media as the 288th-best song of the 2000s. Breathe is my featured Throwback Thursday for the week. Complex named it number 60 on best songs of the decade. Check out the video above for Breathe by Fabolous. 2Pac Resurrection, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, and Alicia Keys first album all made my playlist this week.
