Rick Ross is one of the more accomplished rappers to hit scene in the 2000s. In the summer of 2006, Ross hit us with his Port of Miami album. The platinum selling debut was spawned by his summer smash, Hustlin’. Less than two years later, Ross returned with his Trilla joint. Trilla wasn’t as successful as Port of Miami, but it was just as good. Rick Ross came back with his third album the following year. Deeper Than Rap was the name of the album and this is the project that made me a huge Ross fan. During this time, Ross began his feud with 50 Cent and the Deeper Than Rap joint was well-received. A little over a year later, Ross hit us with his fourth album, and it was called Teflon Don. Six years ago, the Teflon Don was named my favorite album from Rick Ross.
Super High was the first single from the Teflon Don. Super High was a nice track that featured Ne-Yo, and a pair of remixes followed. B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast) was the second single from the Teflon Don album. B.M.F. featured Styles P of the Lox and it was one of the biggest records in 2010. The video was star-studied and there were other remixes to the track. The platinum selling single was named as MTV News’ #4 Song of 2010. Live Fast, Die Young was the third single from the Teflon Don and it featured Kanye West. Live Fast, Die Young was originally conceived by Kanye West as a song for his fifth studio album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. There was never a video for Live Fast, Die Young despite it being one of the best tracks from the album.
The fourth and final single from the album was Aston Martin Music. Aston Martin Music featured Drake and it’s arguably my favorite record from the Teflon Don. It became the most successful single from the album after going triple platinum. The first version of the song just features Drake singing along with Chrisette Michele. The remix and video version were the extended one with Drake rapping on the final verse. Teflon Don debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart behind Eminem’s Recovery, with first-week sales of 176,300 copies. Rolling Stone and Pitchfork named it one of the best albums of 2010. In 2012, Complex named the album one of the classic albums of the previous decade. Check out my top 5 tracks from Teflon Don below.
