Babyface is one of the greatest singers, writers, and producers of all time. He has written or produced for the likes of Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, The Boys, Whitney Houston and many others. Babyface was also in the group After 7. Later, he teamed with L.A. Reid to create one of the greatest labels of all time with LaFace Records. LaFace Records was active from 1989 until 2011 and they were responsible for launching a lot of careers. Outkast, Usher, Goodie Mob, Toni Braxton, TLC, and Donnell Jones are just a few of the artists. Babyface has a great discography and his debut album dropped in 1986 called Lovers. Less than three years later, Babyface would release his second album called Tender Lover. The Tender Lover album was on my playlist of joints that was played this week. The project was successful seeing it sold well over three million copies.
Babyface received numerous nominations for Favorite Soul/R&B New Artist at the 17th American Music Awards. He also received three Grammy nominations along with another one for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for my featured track. Whip Appeal is the track and it’s my Throwback Thursday track for the week. Whip Appeal peaked at number six on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in April 1990. It’s one of Babyface greatest hits in his illustrious career. Check out the video for the classic track Whip Appeal up above. Below you can check out the track listing and stream link to the Tender Lover album.
