Al B. Sure Nite and Day for Throwback Thursday

The late 80s produced its fair share of great hip hop and R&B also. This era produced a pair of my favorite albums of all time. Bobby Brown and his Don’t Be Cruel and Keith Sweat’s Make It Last Forever are those joints. Another underrated classic was In Effect Mode by Al B. Sure. In Effect Mode came out 36 years ago and he became an instant star. Nite and Day were the first single from the album. Nite and Day became the #1 single in America not too long after its release. The second release was Off on Your Own (Girl) and it was a success also. The single wasn’t as successful as the previous one, but still was good. In Effect Mode went double platinum and it’s still one of my favorite R&B albums ever.

There’s a lot to choose from off this album, but my featured Throwback Thursday track is Nite and Day. The track earned a nomination for a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 31st Grammy Awards in 1989. He released his follow-up in 1990 and it went gold, and it wasn’t as good as his debut. In 1992, Al B. Sure released his third album called Sexy Versus and it didn’t chart. Afterwards, Al B. Sure began to produce and write a lot of music and didn’t drop an album until 2009. Last year, Al B. Sure dealt with health issues that put him in a coma. He received a liver transplant and has been recovering ever since. Check out the video to Nite and Day up above.
