Seattle Wins Super Bowl in Dominating Performance

The Seattle Seahawks win the Super Bowl in a dominating performance against the New England Patriots. The defense smothered the Patriots offense on their way to a 29-13 win. The win marked the franchise’s second championship when they defeated Denver 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII. The Seahawks did just that against a Patriots offense that didn’t play very well all postseason. Drake Maye had been sacked five times in each of New England’s first three playoff games. The Seahawks sacked Maye a total of six times. The Seahawks’ defensive front came at Maye in waves. Seattle went into halftime with a 9-0 lead due to four field goals from Jason Meyers. Seattle was led by their defense, special teams, and Sam Darnold. Darnold was known for being turnover-prone, but didn’t commit a turnover in the game. The 38-year-old second-year coach’s personality was adopted by the team.

Seattle added another field goal in the third quarter to push the lead to 12-0. Sam Darnold found AJ Barner for a 16-yard touchdown pass with 13:24 remaining in the game. New England struck quickly after Drake Maye hit Mack Hollins with a 35-yard touchdown pass. Seattle added another field goal and touchdown to go up 29-7. New England drove down the field and scored on a Drake May 7-yard pass to Rhamondre Stevens. New England had an unsuccessful onside kick, which wrapped up the game. Drake Maye tossed a pair of INTs in the fourth quarter. Kenneth Walker III took home the Super Bowl MVP trophy after rushing for 135 yards on 27 carries. The Seattle run game was in question after Zach Charbonnet tore his ACL in the Divisional Round against San Francisco.

Seattle was picked to finish last in my NFC West predictions at the start of the season. The uncertainty of Sam Darnold and him learning a new offense was one of the reasons. The redemption story of Sam Darnold is one that you can appreciate. Darnold was drafted by the New York Jets with the third overall pick in 2018. After a miserable three seasons, Darnold was shipped to Carolina, and it also went badly. Afterwards, Darnold went to San Francisco, where he learned a lot from Kyle Shanahan. The following year, Darnold went to Minnesota and led them to a 14-3 record. Instead of keeping him, they let him walk, and he signed a 3-year, $100 million deal. Sam Darnold can now call himself a Super Bowl champion. Seattle was my favorite to blow out New England in Super Bowl LX.
