GZA Liquid Swords Turns 30 Years Old

Wu Tang Clan released their iconic Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) back in 1993. The 36 Chambers album is viewed as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. With the success of the album, most of the members began releasing solo projects. Method Man released his Tical album almost a year to date of the 36 Chambers joint. Tical was a dope album, and it set the tone for upcoming solo releases from the Wu. Ol’ Dirty Bastard was the next member to release his solo album. Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version was the name of his album, and it went platinum just like the Tical project. A few months later, Raekwon was the next member of the Wu to drop a solo project. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx or the Purple Tape was the name of Raekwon’s album.

The Purple Tape has been on many lists for greatest albums to ever be produced and it went platinum also. A few months later, GZA would release his album, but it was his second solo project. Liquid Swords was the name of the album, and it turns 30 years old today. GZA wasn’t flashy or commanded attention like the other members, but he can spit. I Gotcha Back was the first single that dropped over a year before the album release. The official single for us was the title track, Liquid Swords. Liquid Swords was one of the many gems on the album. The single would peak in the top 5 of the Billboard Hot Rap Songs. Cold World was the next single and it was another dope record from the album. The single featured Inspectah Deck, which means you have two of the Wu’s illest lyricist on a track.

Cold World is a classic hip hop and Wu Tang record. Shadowboxin’ was the final single from Liquid Swords and it featured Method Man. Shadowboxin’ is probably my favorite record from the Liquid Swords album. Overall, the Liquid Swords album is a certified classic and one of those records to listen from the beginning to end. Liquid Swords also became another platinum selling album from the Wu Tang Clan. Check out my top 5 tracks from the Liquid Swords album below.
