Slim Thug Already Platinum Turns 20 Years Old

In the mid-2000s, the Houston sound began to have a strangle hold on the rap game. Lil Flip, Chamillionaire, Paul Wall, Mike Jones and Slim Thug led the charge. Mike Jones dropped his debut album a couple months earlier and it was successful. Lil Flip had already released a couple of platinum albums in 2002 and 2004. Slim Thug came with his major label debut album with the Already Platinum joint. Already Platinum turns 20 years old today and it was another monumental album from Houston. Slim Thug appeared in Mike Jones Still Tippin classic and that set the stage for his project. Bun B, T.I., Pusha T, and Pharrell all made appearances on Already Platinum. The Neptunes produced a majority of the album since he was signed to them. You can never go wrong with the Neptunes producing your music, especially during this time.

Like a Boss was the first single and it was released all the way back in November of 2004. 3 Kings was the next single and it was released early in 2005. 3 Kings featured Bun B and T.I. and this is one of my favorite tracks from the album. Despite it being a great record, it only peaked at 78 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart. I Ain’t Heard of That, Diamonds (Remix) and Incredible Feelin were the last singles released. Overall, the gold-selling Already Platinum album from Slim Thug was well received by fans and critics. It’s one of the albums that continued to elevate Houston hip hop.
