The Men’s College Basketball championship game is now set between the UConn Huskies and Purdue Boilermakers. Before the game, we had some huge news in college basketball. John Calipari has left Kentucky and taken over as Head Coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks. Calipari spent 15 years with Kentucky where he won a national title in 2012. As far as the Women’s Championship, the South Carolina Gamecocks capped a perfect season by defeating Iowa. Purdue reached the championship game by defeating N.C. State to end their Cinderella season. UConn took down Alabama in their Final Four matchup to reach their second consecutive championship game. These are the two teams picked by myself to meet on Monday Night for the championship. Can UConn become the first team to repeat since the 2006-2007 Florida Gators? Will Purdue and Zach Edey cap their magical season with a championship?
This is the matchup that many of us wanted to see. The battle of two of the best big men in the country. Zach Edey of Purdue facing Donovan Clingan is a battle we all are looking forward to. Edey has dominated every matchup thus far in the tournament. Edey put up 20 points and 12 boards in their Final Four win over the Wolfpack. Purdue used their great defense to smother the N.C. State Wolfpack. They held DJ Burns to only 8 points, 4 assists and only one rebound. The Boilermakers will need more scoring from someone other than Zach Edey. Can they find offense from someone other than Edey? This will be tough because the Huskies have got a great defense and can defend the perimeter just as good as anyone else. Will Purdue leave Phoenix as the 2024 College Basketball champions?
The reigning, defending champions are back in the championship game. The UConn Huskies have stormed through this tournament looking even better this year. They have destroyed every team in front of them to reach the Final Four. They faced a really good team in Alabama, and they walked away with a 14 point win. Stephon Castle and Donovan Clingan lead the Huskies in their win over the Crimson Tide. Castle had 21 points and 5 boards and was great on the defensive end. Clingan finished with 18 points and 4 blocks to sure up the interior. All five Huskies starters finished in double figures for the defending champions. Can this team repeat as champions? Can they find a way to stop Zach Edey on the interior? I’m picking the Huskies to repeat as champions and cut down the nets. Winner and Repeat National Champion: UConn Huskies
