The Atlanta Falcons are coming off another disappointing season where they didn’t make the playoffs. The Falcons finished 3rd in the NFC South with a 7-10 record. Atlanta had a defense that finished in the middle of the pack in scoring. Jesse Bates III was one of the best free agent signings in the league last season. The offense finished in the top-10 in rushing and that was thanks to Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier. Allgeier had a 1,000 yard season the previous one and they selected Robinson in the top-10 of last year’s draft. The offense should’ve been better with Kyle Pitts and Drake London. Atlanta had inconsistent play from Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke. The new Atlanta coach, Raheem Morris alluded to it in a press conference. Trade for Justin Fields
Justin Fields name has come up a lot when it comes to the Atlanta Falcons. Fields is from Atlanta, and this would create excitement for the fans and organization. Atlanta is one of the destinations I’ve named if the Bears were to trade him. Atlanta would have to pick up his 5th year option and more likely to extend his contract. The Falcons would have their quarterback of the future and would likely be favorites in the NFC South. We still don’t know what the Bears will do with the top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. The excitement of having Fields, Robinson, Pitts, London, and Allgeier in the same offense is exciting.
Sign Kirk Cousins
Kirk Cousins went down last season with an Achilles injury. Cousins would be a veteran presence in the locker room with plenty of weapons to work with. You put the Falcons running game and the weapons at receiver this would work. There will be concerns about Cousins being an older quarterback coming off an Achilles injury. Would the Falcons spend the type of money he’ll command on an aging QB coming off an Achilles injury?
Sign Russell Wilson
It has been reported that Russell Wilson will be released by the Broncos on March 13th. Wilson will earn $39 million dollars from Denver no matter if he plays next season or not. Would Wilson take a pay cut to help his next team? Russell has said that he wants to win 2 Super Bowls in the next five seasons. Atlanta is primed to make a deep playoff run if they can get a quarterback. Would Russell entertain the Falcons? We all know about the history with Future, who’s one of Atlanta’s biggest rappers. Future had a child with Ciara and her and Wilson are now married. Russell didn’t have a bad season in Denver last year.
Draft a QB with the 8th Overall Pick
The Falcons have the 8th overall pick in next month’s NFL Draft. Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels could be off the board by the time their number is called. J.J. McCarthy could be available. McCarthy is starting to climb a lot of draft boards with his performance at the combine. Atlanta could always move up, but the Commanders, Patriots and Titans all could be selecting signal callers with their pick.
Lure Baker Mayfield from Tampa
Baker Mayfield is coming off an impressive season in Tampa. All indications are pointing out that the Bucs want to keep him for a long time. Whenever someone becomes a free agent, there’s always a chance another team will want them. The Falcons could try to lure him to Atlanta. The Falcons fanbase would love to have a guy like Baker Mayfield on their team. The chances are slim in my opinion because the Bucs just resigned Mike Evans to an extension.
Target Another Veteran
There are several other veteran quarterbacks the Falcons could consider. They could add a veteran to be the bridge to their next signal caller. Ryan Tannehill, Gardner Minshew, Jameis Winston, and Jacoby Brissett come to mind. They could opt for someone like Tyler Huntley, Drew Lock, or Sam Donald.
