Poverty’s Paradise from Naughty by Nature Turns 30

Naughty by Nature Poverty’s Paradise Released 25 Years Ago

Naughty by Nature was part of the Golden Age of Hip Hop for the 90s. They released their first album in 1989, but they were called The New Style. They met Queen Latifah, and she changed their name to Naughty by Nature. Naughty would release their first album under that name in 1991. The album went platinum, and their first single would become an all-time hip hop classic. O.P.P. was the name and it sold over two million singles. About a year and a half later, they would release their third studio album called 19 Naughty III. 19 Naughty III earned them another platinum plaque, and their first single was another hip hop classic. Hip Hop Hooray was the name, and it earned them another platinum plaque. Hip Hop Hooray is still played a lot at sporting events and parties.

A little over two later, Naughty by Nature returned with their fourth studio album. Poverty’s Paradise was the name. Poverty’s Paradise from Naughty by Nature turns 30 years old today. While Poverty’s Paradise didn’t have that all-time classic record, it was arguably their most complete album. Some will say their third single fits the mold of an all-time classic, but it didn’t have that crossover appeal as their previous two. Clap Yo Hands was their first single from the Poverty’s Paradise album. Clap Yo Hands was a good single, but it ended up being their least successful joint from the album. Craziest was a great single and it had mild success on the charts. It became Naughty by Nature’s fourth top 10 single on the Hot Rap Singles, peaking at 5 on that chart. The third and final single from the album was Feel Me Flow.

Feel Me Flow was my favorite joint on the album and one of my all-time favorite videos. The song was the most successful single from the album, peaking at number three on the US Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart. As mentioned, Poverty’s Paradise is my favorite album from Naughty by Nature. Below are my top 5 tracks from Poverty’s Paradise. After that, check out the track listing and stream link for the album.
