T.I. Urban Legend Turns 20 Years Old

Urban Legend from T.I. Released 15 Years Ago Today

T.I. has gone on to have a legendary career. The self-proclaimed King of the South dropped his first album in 2001. I’m Serious was the name of the album, and it was considered a solid album in the south. I’m Serious underperformed and T.I. was eventually dropped from the label. Within the next two years, T.I. went on to sign with Atlantic Records. T.I. released his second album in 2003 and it was called Trap Muzik. Trap Muzik was a classic and the album that made T.I. a household name. Trap Muzik sold over a million copies. T.I. released his third album the following year and it was called Urban Legend. Urban Legend turns 20 years old today and it’s one of my top albums from T.I. Urban Legend debuted at number seven on the US Billboard 200. Bring Em Out was the first single released off the album.

Bring Em Out became T.I.’s first top-ten single to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The track was certified gold by the RIAA for sales of over 500,000 copies in the US. U Don’t Know Me was the second single from the Urban Legend album. This song was nominated for several awards including the Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance. The single was also nominated for an MTV Video Music Award and Vibe Street Anthem of the Year. U Don’t Know Me also went gold just like the first single. The third and final single from Urban Legend was ASAP. ASAP also went gold and the remix featured his Pimp Squad Click artists. Its B-Side song “Motivation” peaked at number 62 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Urban Legend is my second favorite album from the King of the South.

The mid-2000s T.I. is one of the greatest rappers and had one of the greatest runs. We talked about T.I.’s albums, but he was dropping great mixtapes also. T.I. also released his Gangsta Grillz: Down with the King mixtape in 2004. Urban Legend is a classic and below are my top 5 tracks from the project.
