Lupe Fiasco The Show Goes On for Throwback Thursday

We are officially in the month of October, and the weather is starting to feel better. Fall is my favorite season of the year for many reasons and one being the weather. The passing of Assata Shakur made headlines over the past week. If you don’t know the story of Assata Shakur, then do yourself a favor by learning about this courageous and iconic figure. Week 4 of the NFL season featured some great games, but injuries dominated the headlines again. Malik Nabers went down in the Giants win over the Chargers with a torn ACL. The Monday Night game between the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets saw another unfortunate injury. Tyreke Hill suffered a dislocated knee and tore his ACL along with other ligaments. In baseball, they have begun their playoffs as it should be an exciting postseason.

The NBA season is about three weeks away and it can’t get here fast enough. In music news, Jeezy hit us with a new mixtape called Still Snowin’. As far as anniversaries, Mystikal and his Let’s Get Ready album turned 25 years old this past week. Daydream by Mariah Carey also celebrated an anniversary with it being 30 years since its release. My playlist this week consisted of three mixtapes and Southern Smoke 6 from DJ Smallz was one of them. Philadelphia Freeway and the new Jermaine Dupri project also made my list. Lupe Fiasco and his Lasers album are my featured album this week and his track, The Show Goes On. The Show Goes On is my featured Throwback Thursday and it’s the first single from the Lasers album. The song was nominated for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song at the 54th Grammy Awards.

Lasers was the third studio album from Lupe and his follow-up to The Cool project that dropped over three years prior. The Show Goes On peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song became Lupe’s second top ten hit and biggest hit to date. Lupe Fiasco has been called one of the greatest rappers of his generation. Lasers went on to sell over a million copies.
