UGK is one of my favorite rap duos ever. Pimp C and Bun B hit the scene in 1992 with their Too Hard Too Swallow album. Pocket Full of Stones, Cramping My Style, and Something Good were some of the classics on the album. Less than two years later, UGK returned with their second album called Super Tight. Super Tight featured tracks like Return, Underground, Front Back, and Protect & Serve. In another two years, they hit us with the classic Ridin Dirty album. Ridin Dirty has been called one of the greatest albums to come out of the South. It took them another five years to drop another album due to legal issues. In 2005, Bun B released his first solo album. Trill was the name, and it went gold, and it proved Bun B could hold his own like we thought.
Less than three years later, Bun B returned with his second album, II Trill. II Trill came out a few months after the unfortunate passing of Pimp C. Less than two years later, Bun B came out with his third album, and it was called Trill OG. Trill OG turns 15 years old today, and it has a lot of features on the album. Pimp C, 2Pac, Drake, Twista, Jeezy, Gucci Mane, and Yo Gotti are some of the names that appeared on Trill OG. On August 4, 2010, The Source magazine gave Trill OG its rare 5 mic rating. In January 2010, Bun B told MTV that the album was scheduled for an April 2010 release. Additionally, Bun confirmed a collaboration with “a hip hop legend and a cultural icon” on the same song.
He later declared the icons to be Tupac Shakur and Pimp C, along with Trey Songz singing the chorus. The song, “Right Now”, was released in the summer of 2010. Bun summarized, “Tupac verse is from the 90’s Pimp C’s from the 2000s and mine from 2010 and it sounds like we just stepped out the booth yesterday. Four official singles from Trill OG was released. Countin Money featuring Yo Gotti & Gucci Mane was the first single. The following week, Bun B dropped Trillionaire featuring T-Pain as the second single. Just Like That featured Jeezy was the third single and it dropped the same day as Trillionaire. The fourth and final single featured Drake and it was called Put It Down. Overall, Trill OG was a solid album from Bun B, and it wrapped up a solid three album run.
There are a few songs from Trill OG that appeared on my Best of Pimp C & Bun B: UGK Greatest Hits joint. Bun B spends his time nowadays establishing his Trill Burgers restaurant. Trill Burgers has been known for their amazing burgers and even won an award on Good Morning America. What are your thoughts about the Trill OG album? Check out my top 5 tracks from the album below.
