Mobb Deep is one of the greatest hip hop duos ever. Havoc and Prodigy have one of the most unique styles in the game. They released their Juvenile Hell album back in 1993. Two years later, they released their iconic The Infamous project. Mobb Deep The Infamous album turns 30 years old today. The album features guest appearances by Nas, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, and Q-Tip. In 2020, the album was ranked 369th on Rolling Stone’s updated list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The 36 Chambers album from Wu Tang Clan, Illmatic, Ready to Die and this one is credited for bringing New York hip hop back. The platinum selling project was backed by four singles. Shook Ones, Part II was the first single from the album. In 2010 Pitchfork Media included the song at number 25 on their Top 200 Tracks of the 90s.
Shook Ones, Pt. II is a part of several lists calling it one of the greatest hip hop songs ever. In 2024, it was voted by Rock the Bells as the greatest Hip-Hop beat of all time. Survival of the Fittest was the second single and this track made me a fan of Mobb Deep. Survival of the Fittest was like the soundtrack to Mobb Deep. This was another banger from the album and one of the most respected hip hop tracks ever. Temperature’s Rising was another great track, but didn’t get the reception as their previous two singles. Give Up the Goods (Just Step) was the fourth and final single from The Infamous album. Give Up the Goods (Just Step) is a good record, and it didn’t live up to the success of their first couple of singles.
As mentioned, this is one of the greatest albums that represent New York. The Infamous is one of my favorite Mobb Deep albums. Unfortunately, Prodigy of Mobb Deep passed away back in June of 2017. The Mobb Deep sound lives on because they have another project dropping the Mass Appeal label by Nas. Check out my top five tracks from the Infamous project. After that, peep the track listing and stream link for The Infamous joint.
