Welcome to another week as the NBA starts its second half of the season. Check out my top 5 teams from the Eastern and Western Conference. The NBA All-Star weekend brought a lot of conversations about the spectacle and the NBA itself. The hip hop world celebrated the 29th anniversary of 2Pac releasing his All Eyez on Me album. Speaking of albums, Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR dropped their collaboration album last Friday. Last, but not least we know that the late, great Irv Gotti was laid to rest in a private funeral service. My playlist this week consisted of quite a few mixtapes in my collection. Eazy Duz It by Eazy-E, the Young Breed album from No Limit and Don’t Be Cruel by Bobby Brown made the list. Yukmouth’s 18K The Golden Era is a greatest hits album with hits from his solo joints and Luniz albums.
Yukmouth had a lot of success going solo with hits like Still Ballin from his Thugged Out: The Albulation project. The biggest hit from the Luniz was I Got 5 On It from their debut album, Operation Stackola. I Got 5 On It is one of the biggest hip hop records and it’s my featured Throwback Thursday joint. The success of I Got 5 On It pushed the album to sell over a million copies. The single was certified Platinum by the RIAA on October 31, 1995, and sold one million copies domestically. In 2022, Pitchfork ranked “I Got 5 on It” one of “The 250 Best Songs of the 1990s” Check out the video for I Got 5 On It above here.
