Welcome to another week as we head into February. First of all, Black History Month is next month, and the Super Bowl is set. In a rematch from a couple years ago, the Kansas City Chiefs will meet the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. In the NBA, the All-Star game is a couple weeks away. My playlist was a crazy one this past week. The Black Album, Lose Control by Silk, a couple mixtapes and the Scorpion joint from Eve was played. The Best of DJ Quik, Lox We are the Streets and the 36 Seasons project from Ghostface was also played. The Beg for Mercy album was also played throughout the week. Beg for Mercy dropped in November of 2003, and it went double platinum. The album was released nine months after 50 Cent’s successful debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin’.
In its first week of sales, Beg for Mercy sold 377,000 copies. It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, behind 2Pac’s Tupac: Resurrection, & Jay-Z’s The Black Album. Stunt 101 was the first single released from the album. The second single is my featured Throwback Thursday joint, and it’s called Poppin’ Them Thangs. Poppin’ Them Thangs is one of the highlights of the album. 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, and Young Buck came correct on this track. The success of the album set up Lloyd Banks and his Hunger for More album. Unfortunately, it looks like we will never get a G-Unit reunion with 50 Cent beefing with Young Buck and Lloyd Banks. Check out the video for Poppin’ Them Thangs up above. Below, you can check out the track listing and stream link for the Beg for Mercy album.
