Do or Die Po Pimp Featuring Twista for Throwback Thursday

Christmas is around the corner and I’m hoping everyone is doing well. Mia X Mama Drama, the new Lloyd Banks mixtape and The Red Light District joint from Ludacris were some on my list. There were other albums that were played and one that will be featured is the Rap-A-Lot Records Greatest Hits project. Rap-A-Lot Records influenced labels in the south like No Limit and Cash Money Records. Scarface, Geto Boys, Big Mike, 5^th Ward Boyz, and many others released projects on Rap-A-Lot Records. Do or Die is another group that had success on the label. In September of 1996, the group released their debut album, Picture This. Picture This is one of my all-time favorite albums and brought another flavor from the Midwest. During this time, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony were running things and Crucial Conflict was also doing their thing.

Do or Die hit us with that classic track, Po Pimp and it featured Twista. Po Pimp is my featured Throwback Thursday track of the week. Twista being featured on several tracks from the album helped people become interested in Twista. With the success of Po Pimp and other Twista featured tracks, he released his platinum selling Adrenaline Rush the following year. As far as Do or Die and their Po Pimp track, it was one of the biggest hits of that summer. The song became a local hit and caught the attention of Rap-a-Lot Records. They signed Do or Die to a deal and released Po Pimp nationwide. It peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 on October 19 and reached No. 1 on the Hot Rap Singles chart.
