Weekend Projects That Add Personality to Your Home

The weekend is the perfect time to roll up your sleeves and tackle a fun, creative project that makes your house feel a little (or a lot!) more like you. You might want to add a little something new, change something old, or give your home a bit more character or a focal point, but whatever it is, small DIY projects that can be done – give or take – over a weekend, can make a huge impact. With that in mind, keep reading to find out what some of those projects could be so you can add that wonderful jolt of personality to your home.

Create A Gallery Wall

A gallery wall? Isn’t that something you’d find in a posh art place or a museum? Well, yes, but also you can have one in your home and it doesn’t have to be over the top of difficult to do either – in fact, it can be a nice, easy project to get started with that will definitely inject some personality into your home!

You just need to gather a mix of framed photos, artwork, and other interesting and quirky things like maps of places you’ve been, or postcards people have sent you, for example (and for some added texture, which is always a good idea, you can add some 3D bits and pieces like mirrors, hooks, plants, and so on) and then hang them all on a wall. Of course, you can’t just go in with no plan or the whole thing will look a mess – take some time to work out where every item is going to work best (draw a plan or lay things out on the floor to see how it looks) before you start hammering nails into the wall, and you’ll end up with a gorgeous feature wall that’s totally you.

Build A Bar

Another fun thing you could do at the weekend is to create a home bar – it’s the ideal place for entertaining or just for you! Again, this doesn’t have to be a massive project (although it’s obviously a bigger job than some of the other ideas on this list), and it’s the planning that really counts as then you can move on faster with the job at hand.

You can start with something like a repurposed cabinet or even the corner of your kitchen, and once you’ve got that, you can decorate it, then add shelves for glasses, hooks for hanging mugs or cocktail bits and pieces, and perhaps line it all with peel and stick tiles or wallpaper or paint the whole thing to make it stand out. Don’t forget your bar sign either – that’s going to set things off just right.

Transform An Old Piece of Furniture

If you’ve got a piece of furniture that’s seen better days, that could be another weekend project to get your hands on. A coat of paint or some varnish, for example, could be all it takes to transform something old into something new and exciting (remember to put the prep work in, though, otherwise the end result won’t be as good as you’d hoped).

If you want to take things further and you’re feeling a little adventurous, you could add some stencils or perhaps some new hardware (depending on what the item is in the first place), or even take what you’ve got and turn it into something entirely new! See how you feel and how confident you are and go from there.
