Spice 1 AmeriKKKa’s Nightmare Turns 30 Years Old

Spice 1 is one of the more underrated rappers to ever pick up a microphone. Spice released his first EP all the way back in 1991. The following year, he dropped the first of his sixteen studio albums. Spice 1 released his self-titled album back in April of 1992. The album was included in The Source’s 100 greatest hip hop albums. Welcome to the Ghetto was his big hit and the album went gold in the process. The following year, Spice 1 hit us with his second album called 187 He Wrote. This one brought back a lot of memories because it dropped the day after my birthday. 187 He Wrote was an instant classic with hits like The Murda Show with MC Eiht and Trigga Gots No Heart. A little over a year later, Spice 1 hit us with his third called AmeriKKKa’s Nightmare.

Spice 1 AmeriKKKa’s Nightmare turns 30 years old today and this is my favorite joint from him. The album peaked at number 22 on the Billboard 200 and number 2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. It was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America on January 24, 1995, for selling over 500,000 copies in the US. The only single to be released from AmeriKKKa’s Nightmare was Strap on the Side. Strap on the Side was far from a radio track to make it a commercial success. The album had appearances from 2Pac, E-40 and Method Man. The album was amazing, and it made me even more of a fan of Spice 1. Check out my top 5 tracks from the album below. After that, check out the track listing and stream link to the AmeriKKKa’s Nightmare project.
