Ice Cube is one of the most controversial figures to ever pick up a microphone. Cube got his start with the legendary group N.W.A. and they dropped their classic Straight Outta Compton in 1988. As we all know that album changed hip hop, and it would become a successful movie. Unfortunately, it was the final album with Ice Cube as he left the group over a money dispute. Ice Cube dropped his classic, debut album AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted joint in May of 1990. AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted was a hard hitting album and was labeled as a classic. At the end of the year, Cube released an ER called Kill at Will and it was well received. In October of 1991, Ice Cube released his second album called Death Certificate. The Death Certificate album was on my playlist this week, and this was another classic from Cube.
Death Certificate has made several lists of Greatest Hip Hop Albums of All Time. This is the album where his classic diss towards N.W.A. called No Vaseline appeared. No Vaseline is still viewed as one of, if not the coldest diss track ever. There were so many bangers on the album and my featured track is Steady Mobbin. Steady Mobbin is my Throwback Thursday track of the week, and it was the first single off the Death Certificate album. Check out the video for Steady Mobbin above. Ice Cube is the owner of the popular Big 3 basketball league nowadays. Check out the track listing and stream link for the Death Certificate album below.
