I’ve mentioned several times how great the 90s were when it came to quality music. We all know about hip hop, but the R&B side of things produced a lot of great sounds. One of the great groups of that era was Changing Faces. Changing Faces released their self-titled debut album in August of 1994. The album just celebrated its 30th anniversary on the 23rd of August. The album went gold, and the first single was one of the reasons the album was successful. Stroke You Up was the name of the first single and it was written and produced by R. Kelly. During this time, R. Kelly was the hottest thing in R&B as far as producing and songwriting. Kelly helped produce their single while working on his own material. This was between the 12 Play and his self-titled second album when he worked with Changing Faces.
Stroke You Up went platinum, and the remix appeared on A Low Down Dirty Shame Soundtrack. Stroke You Up was their biggest hit and it’s my featured Throwback Thursday joint this week. This song along with Foolin’ Around was their biggest hits from their album. Changing Faces released their last album in 2000 called Visit Me. Despite the numerous teases on releasing a new album, it never happened. Unfortunately, they broke up as a group and went through legal proceedings regarding adding a new member. With so many artists releasing music in this new day and age, it’s a shame they’re not one of them doing it. Check out the video for Stroke You Up above. Below you can check out the track listing and stream link for their self-titled debut album.
