Lil Wayne Tha Carter Turns 20 Years Old Today

Tha Carter from Lil Wayne Turns 15 Years Old Today

Lil Wayne is known as one of the greatest rappers of all-time. Billboard released its top 50 rappers and Lil Wayne came in at number seven. Weezy started off his career with the Hot Boys and they released their debut album in 1997. The Hot Boys consisted of Lil Wayne, B.G., Juvenile, and Turk. Get It How U Live and Guerilla Warfare were their first two albums released in 1997 and 1999, respectively. After the platinum success of the Guerilla Warfare album, Lil Wayne dropped his first solo album called The Block is Hot. The Block is Hot dropped in November of 1999, and it went platinum. The following year, Lil Wayne dropped his Lights Out album and it went gold. About a year and half later, Wayne released his third album called 500 Degreez.

Lil Wayne says it was inspired by Juvenile’s 400 Degrees, but we also knew they were beefing during that time. 500 Degreez went gold, and this was the period Lil Wayne became a legend. Wayne was dropping mixtape after mixtape and was featured on a lot of tracks during this time. Wayne was killing the mixtape scene by dropping those Sqad Up tapes. At the beginning of summer of 2004, Lil Wayne would drop his fourth album called Tha Carter. Tha Carter dropped 20 years and it continued a legendary run by Weezy F. Baby. Tha Carter is the continuation of Wayne becoming a dope MC. Go D.J. was his big single from the album and it went double platinum. Tha Carter debuted at number five on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 116,000 copies in its first week. This became Wayne’s third US top-ten debut.

Tha Carter is one of my favorite albums by Lil Wayne. Out of the five albums from the Carter series, this is probably in the middle of the pack for me. The only features on Tha Carter is Mannie Fresh, Birdman and Jazze Pha. Go D.J., I Miss My Dawgs, This is the Carter, Bring It Back, and BM Jr. are my top 5 tracks.
