The 2024 NFL Draft is right around the corner and the Chicago Bears have the #1 pick. Usually when teams have the top pick in the draft they’re going after a quarterback. The Chicago Bears have one in Justin Fields, and he showed a lot of promise. The second half of the season saw a lot of growth on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Caleb Williams just declared he’s entering the NFL Draft and most likely the top pick. Chicago could opt to trade away the pick and continue to build around Justin Fields. With that, they will most likely have to pick up his 5th year option and negotiate a long-term deal. They could opt to trade Justin Fields seeing there’s a lot of quarterback needy teams. If he’s traded away, check out 6 teams that should trade for Justin Fields.
Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons team is constructed to win now with one exception and it’s the quarterback position. Atlanta didn’t show interest in trading for Lamar Jackson after they went after DeShaun Watson. The Falcons gutted it out with Desmond Ridder, and they paid the price. Taylor Heinicke relieved Ridder in a few games, but he didn’t perform any better. Atlanta has two good running backs and a nice receiving core along with Kyle Pitts. Justin Fields would fit perfectly with this team and he’s also from Atlanta. There have been questions about the Falcons giving up the 8th pick for Fields. If I’m the Falcons I’m pulling the trigger and bringing in Fields.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers made the playoffs, but you can say it was off the backs of the defense. The Steelers lost to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round. Mason Rudolph didn’t play badly, but he’s not the long term answer at the position. Kenny Pickett was drafted a couple years ago to be the successor to Big Ben, but it hasn’t gone well. Mike Tomlin has said he’s returning as coach after finishing with a winning record for 17 consecutive seasons. Justin Fields would be an upgrade over Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph. The offense has weapons in George Pickens, Diontae Johnson, Najee Harris, and Jaylen Warren. The defense should be good again next season and they could make some noise with a quarterback like Justin Fields.
Washington Commanders
Sam Howell was one of the leaders in passing yards this season. Howell was eventually benched in their loss to the Rams, but he was still the starter. The Commanders have gotten rid of Ron Rivera and will have a new coach next season. Sam Howell is more than capable of being a starting quarterback, but the new coach may not see it that way. The Commanders have an assortment of weapons on offense that Fields could utilize. In a division with Dak Prescott and Jalen Hurts you will need a great quarterback to make plays. Fields could be that guy, but the Commanders must find a new coach first.
Las Vegas Raiders
The draft position of the Raiders will most likely not see them get a franchise quarterback. Las Vegas must figure out their coaching situation and it seems like the players want Antonio Pierce. Jimmy Garoppolo and Aidan O’Connell are the quarterbacks heading into the offseason. Garoppolo isn’t the answer for the future because he’s injury prone. O’Connell showed signs, but don’t think he’ll be enough to keep Davante Adams around. Las Vegas needs to get a franchise quarterback and Justin Fields would bring excitement to that fanbase. Having Justin Fields, Davante Adams, and Josh Jacobs is a start to build around.
Denver Broncos
We all know about the situation between Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos. The Broncos currently have the 12th pick in the draft so they could get a quarterback in that spot. Sean Peyton will want to win now and getting a rookie quarterback won’t do the job. Justin Fields plays like Russell Wilson so that may prevent them from going after him. Denver has weapons on both sides of the ball. Justin Fields could open the offense up a little more and help the running game in the process. With the money tied to Wilson, the Broncos could be out of the Justin Fields sweepstakes.
Minnesota Vikings
Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles during the season and the Vikings struggled at the quarterback position. In the end, they failed to make the playoffs after going through three other quarterbacks. Kirk Cousins has stated that he would return to Minnesota at a discounted price. Justin Jefferson has co-signed with the team to attempt to bring back Cousins. If Minnesota want to move on from Cousins then Justin Fields could be their guy. Will this happen? Most likely not because I’m not seeing the Bears trading Fields to a division rival.
Do you think the Bears should trade Fields? If so, what do you think about the teams mentioned? Is there a dark horse team that could emerge? Leave some feedback below about anything related to Justin Fields.
