During the mid-to-late 90s, Master P and No Limit Records were on top of the hip hop world. During that time, they not only put out great albums but also unmatched soundtracks and compilations. He dropped the Down South Hustlers double album compilation back in 1995. In 1997, he dropped the West Coast Bad Boyz II compilation and the I’m Bout It Soundtrack.
All those albums were considered classics and still get much play. Fast forward to 1998, P has put out several albums and made millions, but he wasn’t finished yet! He released the movie and soundtrack to I Got the Hookup, featuring Beats by the Pound and RZA as producers. The title track featured Master P and his group, Sons of Funk, and it was a dope track. The album was full of bangers, and it went platinum within two months of its release.
I Got the Hookup featured a plethora of artists on No Limit Records, but he also had others. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Ice Cube, Jay-Z, Memphis Bleek, 8Ball & MJG, Montell Jordan, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, UGK, and Mack 10 were also on the project. I Got the Hookup continued the run of classic joints No Limit was dropping, and is still one of my favorite soundtracks ever. Usually, I’ll list all the tracks that are my favorite, but there are too many on this project. Ghetto Vet, From What I Was Told, I Got the Hookup, Would You Hesitate, Itch or Scratch, and What the Game Made Me are my absolute favorites, though. For all you R&B fans, he has a few tracks on there for you, also.
